COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE (CPL)
A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) authorises you to conduct private and commercial operations and is the initial benchmark licence for working in the aviation industry as a pilot. Commercial pilots may fly for hire or reward and are authorised to act as pilot in command for aircraft only requiring one pilot, or as co-pilot for aircraft requiring two pilots. The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) provides you with the qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience to operate as a commercial pilot and to seek initial employment in various roles.
THEORY AND FLIGHT TRAINING
A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is the initial benchmark licence for working in the aviation industry as a pilot.
The aim of the course is to provide the student with the required skills, knowledge and attitudes to safely exercise the commercial pilot licence– aeroplane category rating. Flight training lessons include general handling and navigation exercises incorporating operations at controlled aerodromes and in controlled airspace, basic and advanced manoeuvres, circuit operations, basic instrument flight and procedures in the event of abnormal situations and emergencies. Human factors and non-technical skills awareness and application are also included. Manual propeller pitch control and retractable undercarriage design feature endorsement training may be conducted following the completion of CPL lesson 6 (for students not already holding these endorsements).

The privileges and limitations of the commercial pilot licence – aeroplane category rating are defined in CASR Part 61 Subpart 61.I. The syllabus is based on a total flight time of 203.5 hours inclusive of the CPL aeroplane category flight test; however the time required to achieve competency will vary from student to student.

PREREQUISITES
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have fully completed and graduated from senior-secondary school (equivalent to Year 12 senior secondary level in Australia)
- Apply for ASIC
- Pass a Class 1 Medical Exam
International Students:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.5 or higher; OR having attended secondary school where the education was conducted in English.
- Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) issued by the Australian Government.
