THEORY AND FLIGHT TRAINING

The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is the essential qualification for pilots pursuing a professional career in the aviation industry. This course combines advanced flight training with comprehensive theory instruction to develop the skills, knowledge and decision-making required to safely operate aircraft in commercial environments. Throughout the program, students undertake general handling, navigation exercises, controlled aerodrome and controlled airspace operations, advanced manoeuvres, circuit training, basic instrument flying and emergency procedures. In addition, the course develops human factors awareness and non-technical skills, ensuring graduates are prepared to operate safely, confidently and professionally in real-world commercial aviation operations.

THE CPL SYLLABUS

The CPL syllabus provides a structured pathway from advanced flight training through to the Commercial Pilot Licence flight test. Students progressively build competency across all aspects of commercial flight operations while accumulating the aeronautical experience required for licence issue. The syllabus includes practical flight training, theory studies, navigation exercises, operational procedures and competency-based assessments, with additional endorsements such as manual propeller pitch control and retractable undercarriage available where applicable. Based on approximately 203.5 hours of total flight time, the program is designed to produce industry-ready commercial pilots, although the total training time may vary depending on each student's progress and competency.

FURTHER STUDIES

Operational ratings are categorised as qualifications added to a pilot licence that grants the pilot legal authorisation to conduct specialized, safety-critical aviation activities or flights. Operational Ratings can include Instrument Rating, Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) Rating, Low-level Rating, and Instructor Ratings. Pilots can also obtain a series of Class Ratings – this permits the pilot to operate a class of aircraft; such as single-engine aeroplane class, multi-engine aeroplane class or single-engine helicopter. In addition to operational and class ratings, pilots can also obtain endorsements and further licences to tailor their skills. Licence endorsements range from retractable undercarriage (RU), gas turbine endorsement (GTE), and even floatplane endorsements. Pilots can progress onto their Airline Transport Pilot Licence and Multi Crew Co-operation training to further advance their pilot licence qualifications.
