THEORY AND FLIGHT TRAINING
The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) course is designed for students who have completed Year 12 and are looking to pursue a professional career in aviation. Throughout the program, students develop the advanced aeronautical knowledge, decision-making skills and practical flying experience required to operate aircraft in commercial aviation environments. Training is conducted in White Star Aviation's fleet of Cessna 172, Cessna 182, Cessna 206 and Cessna 210 aircraft, progressing from foundational flight exercises through to complex commercial operations. This nationally recognised qualification provides the experience and competency required to work as a commercial pilot, allowing graduates to fly for hire or reward as Pilot in Command of single-pilot aircraft or as Co-Pilot in multi-crew operations.
THE SYLLABUS
The Instrument Rating syllabus combines advanced theory instruction, simulator training and practical flight exercises to prepare students for operating aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Students learn to fly single and multi-engine aircraft without visual reference to the ground, relying solely on aircraft instruments, navigation systems and air traffic control procedures. The course also qualifies pilots to operate under Night VFR, significantly expanding operational capabilities and employment opportunities. Instrument flying is one of the most challenging and rewarding disciplines in aviation, developing precision, professionalism and confidence while providing a critical qualification for pilots pursuing careers in charter, airline and commercial aviation operations.
FURTHER STUDIES
Operational ratings are categorised as qualifications added to a pilot licence that grants the pilot legal authorisation to conduct specialized, safety-critical aviation activities or flights. Operational Ratings can include Instrument Rating, Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) Rating, Low-level Rating, and Instructor Ratings. Pilots can also obtain a series of Class Ratings – this permits the pilot to operate a class of aircraft; such as single-engine aeroplane class, multi-engine aeroplane class or single-engine helicopter. In addition to operational and class ratings, pilots can also obtain endorsements and further licences to tailor their skills. Licence endorsements range from retractable undercarriage (RU), gas turbine endorsement (GTE), and even floatplane endorsements. Pilots can progress onto their Airline Transport Pilot Licence and Multi Crew Co-operation training to further advance their pilot licence qualifications.
