THEORY AND FLIGHT TRAINING

The AVI50519 Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is designed for pilots who have completed the AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence) and are looking to expand their operational capabilities and career opportunities within the aviation industry. Throughout the course, students develop advanced instrument flying skills, navigation techniques and decision-making abilities required to safely operate aircraft in a wide range of weather conditions and operational environments. All flight training is conducted in White Star Aviation's DA62, PA30 or BN2 aircraft, providing valuable multi-engine experience while preparing students for professional aviation operations. This program is delivered under a third-party provider arrangement with Aircrew Training and Support (RTO 45520).

THE SYLLABUS

The Instrument Rating syllabus combines advanced theory instruction, simulator training and practical flight exercises to prepare students for operating aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Students learn to fly single and multi-engine aircraft without visual reference to the ground, relying solely on aircraft instruments, navigation systems and air traffic control procedures. The course also qualifies pilots to operate under Night VFR, significantly expanding operational capabilities and employment opportunities. Instrument flying is one of the most challenging and rewarding disciplines in aviation, developing precision, professionalism and confidence while providing a critical qualification for pilots pursuing careers in charter, airline and commercial aviation operations.

FURTHER STUDIES

The Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is an advanced aviation qualification that provides commercial pilots with the specialised skills required to operate aircraft safely under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). The qualification combines advanced aeronautical theory, simulator-based instruction and practical flight training to develop competency in instrument procedures, navigation systems, flight planning, airspace management and aircraft operations in a wide range of weather conditions. Graduates are qualified to conduct instrument flight operations by sole reference to aircraft instruments, significantly expanding the operational capability of their Commercial Pilot Licence. An Instrument Rating is recognised as one of the most valuable qualifications for professional pilots, providing a pathway into charter, corporate and airline operations while supporting further progression into advanced multi-engine, airline transport and command training.
